In recognition of the high quality of its wines, Carl Schmitt-Wagner
Winery has received many awards and honors from state and federal
wine-tasting competitions, as well as being recognized in national
and international wine-specific press. The winery is a seven-time
recipient of the "Staatsehrenpreis", which is an award from the state
of Germany for special achievements in agriculture in the category
of wine. Additionally, Carl Schmitt-Wagner Winery received the "Bundesehrenpreis"
honor from the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, which
is a testament to the exceptional quality of the winery.
In the international arena, Carl Schmitt-Wagner Winery received the world-renowned "Decanter
Award", from the British wine magazine "Decanter", for its 1989 Longuicher
Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett.
The wines are recommended as excellent
Mosel Rieslings in many publications, including The Gault Millau -
German Wine Guide, A German Wine Atlas by Hugh Johnson and Stuart
Pigott, the world wine guide of Slow Food, the recently published Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil, and the American publication
"The Wine Advocate", by Robert M. Parker. Since 1919, Carl Schmitt-Wagner
Winery has been a member of the "Bernkasteler
Ring" - "Riesling Wineries since 1899", the oldest wine auction
society on the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer. This is a group of family-owned
wineries with a staunch commitment to quality. The winery takes part
in the annual auction in Bernkastel-Kues in September. This auction
is an internationally recognized event, for which the best Riesling
wines are chosen by very strict screening procedures.
